Mittersill travel guide: gateway to the Hohe Tauern National Park
Mittersill is a market town in the Upper Pinzgau, about 30 minutes west of Zell am See, and a gateway to the Hohe Tauern National Park.
It suits groups who want more privacy and calm than the busier resort centres while staying within reach of them. The national park visitor centre is in town, the Pass Thurn road leads north towards Kitzbühel, and the Resterhöhe ski area sits above the pass.
Our Mittersill chalet offers four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a living room and a sauna for up to 10 guests.

Planning a trip to Mittersill

Mittersill lies in the Upper Pinzgau, the valley that runs west from Zell am See towards Krimml. Mittersill is a small market town with shops and restaurants, surrounded by the mountains of the Hohe Tauern, Austria’s largest national park.
Getting there
Zell am See is about 30 minutes by car and Kitzbühel roughly 40 minutes over the Pass Thurn. Salzburg airport is around an hour and a half away. The Pinzgau local railway links Mittersill with Zell am See and Krimml, but a car makes day trips much easier with a larger group.
When to come
Summer is the strongest season here: the Krimml Waterfalls, among the highest in Europe, are a short drive west, and the side valleys of the Hohe Tauern National Park offer walks for every level. In winter the Resterhöhe ski area above the Pass Thurn connects to the Kitzbühel slopes, and the Kitzsteinhorn glacier at Kaprun is within reach.
